Ellie's Birth Story

It all started Tuesday, May 18th. I woke up around 7am to send Calvin off to work. I was having light contractions, but nothing to write home about. At about 8am they started progressively getting stronger and about 4 1/2 mins apart. Within an hour they became almost unbearable and only 2 minutes apart. I sent Calvin a text telling him it would probably be a good idea for him to come home because I was going into labor. While I waited for him to drive home I decided the best idea was to get ready because I was not about to take a bunch of pictures looking the way I did. You are supposed to have a glow about you and not look like you had just been ran over by a semi. He was home within a 20 minutes, but I made him wait because I wasn't done straightening my hair. I know this might sound crazy to some but I was on a mission.

Luckily there was no traffic on the way there and we some how managed to get to the hospital in 20 minutes instead of the usual 45. Right away the nurse was able to find Ellie's heartbeat and we were both monitored for about 30 minutes. The doctor came in and said I was about 5 1/2 cm dilated and 100% effaced. So with that information I knew that I would become a mother by the end of the day.

After about 2 hours of waiting in my gigantic room, the anesthesiologist came in and gave me my epidural. Once I recieved my epidural everything was smooth sailing. Seriously, epidurals are amazing and there is no way I would go through birth without one.

For the next few hours, Calvin was by my side and we watched the Cav's vs. the Celtics game while we waited. At 7:40pm the nurse said we were going to start pushing. I looked at the nurse and said, "let's do this." 20 minutes later Ellie Raye was born! She weighed 8lbs 8oz and was 19.75 inches long. Not to mention the kid had a head full of hair. While I was getting stitched up, Calvin held her right by my bed so I could see the beautiful little girl we created together. One of the best days of our lives hands down.

Welcome to the wonderful world Ellie Raye!

There is so much to write about the birth of our baby girl Ellie. However, that will have to wait because while Ellie is off in dreamland, I have some laundry to catch up on. Here are just a few pictures taken of little miss thang...
